Q: What is wire wrapped jewelry?
A: Wire wrapped jewelry is an ancient art. Many believe it was developed by the ancient Egyptians. An example supporting this would be the Pharoah's ring. The black onyx ring in our ring section is a replica of the ancient Egyptian style.

Q: What is gold filled wire?
A: Gold filled wire is made by forming a tube of gold and filling this tube with a base metal, usually jeweler's brass. For most people it will last their entire lifetime. It is otherwise known as heirloom gold.

Q: What is a simulated gem?
A: Simulated gems do not have the same properties as the natural gem but resemble the natural gem. examples- a blue Topaz may be glass or a lab quartz. an emerald may be glass, spinel, diffused topaz or a lab corundum.

Q: What is the difference between lab created, lab grown, and synthetic?
A: None. This is according to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC).

Q: What is the difference between synthetic, lab created, lab grown and natural?
A: Lab created gems are similar in makeup to the natural gem but created more quickly in laboratory conditions. On a molecular level, lab and natural are the same. The time for creation is the difference. Many people feel that only the natural gem has the metaphysical values or healing properties. Often the difference between a lab gem and a natural gem can only be distinguished by a qualified gemologist. A natural gem is formed by earth and taken from the ground.

Q: What is the difference between abalone and pau shell?
A: Abalone is from the Family Haliotidae and Genus Haliotis. When it is found off the North American coast, it is called Abalone. Found off the coast of New Zealand, is Paua, Awabi off the coast of Japan, Mutton Fish off the coast of Australia, and Omer off the coast of Guernsey.

Q: What is a Mabe pearl?
A: It is a blister pearl grown in a Mabe oyster. It is also a process of creating a half pearl, even when it is not grown in a Mabe oyster. The back of the pearl is finished with a polished piece of mother-of -pearl. 

Q: What is an Osmena pearl?
A: An Osmena pearl is not a pearl at all, but the inner layer of shell from a chambered nautilus. The cabachons cut from the nautilus shell are normally slightly ridged.
